About

Welcome to the website for Kindling Space, a social community group that meet regularly around a campfire in Brighton, UK.

We are a peer gathering, rather than a therapeutic workshop. That’s not to say healing doesn’t happen here too – just in a more organic, natural way. We meet twice a month, on different days.

Our aims are to:

  • Help people make new friends and feel less lonely
  • Spend time outdoors around a campfire
  • Meet regularly to build and grow connections

We try to be as inclusive as possible, and our campfires can be especially good for people who struggle to make friends in the usual social settings.

How did Kindling Space begin?

I created Kindling Space in 2021 as a peer support campfire group, for women with lived experience of trauma. We had many magical evenings together around the fire. ✨

It hadn’t been running for a while and I was inspired to restart the group for the winter of 2025, this time with more of a focus on social connections open to all genders. We are back again for 2026/27, open to everyone!

What do we do?

Kindling Space hosts regular campfires at a private plot we hire in Stanmer Park, just outside the city of Brighton. Our campfire sessions are for all ages and genders, and we are actively building our community. Well-behaved dogs and children are very welcome. We alternate the days for our meetings, to allow people with different schedules to attend. 🔥

Our campfires are loosely facilitated and develop organically, with lots of time and space to naturally connect with each other and chat about things around the campfire whilst cooking and sharing. I specifically don’t want Kindling Space to be a workshop style event – there is no planned agenda, each meeting feels very different depending on who attends and what we bring to share with each other.

Kindling Space is a simple modern campfire group, following in the footsteps of ancient community architecture. Let’s see what magic we build together around the fire!
