FAQs

What is Kindling Space?

Kindling Space is a social campfire group that meets regularly in the woods outside Brighton. We are a peer group designed to connect people for friendship.

What does a Kindling Space campfire feel like?

It’s magical to be part of a Kindling Space, each campfire takes on its own energy depending on who joins us. Sometimes the experience is not what we are expecting, yet gives us just what we need. Let’s get back to connecting in person, just like nature intended!

When is it?

We hold regular campfires (weekly throughout the winter of 2025/26). Meetings are on alternating days to allow people with different schedules the opportunity to attend.

Where is it?

The campfire is hosted at a private space in Stanmer Park, Brighton, BN1 9SE. It has good accessibility and basic infrastructure to be comfortable in the colder months. We send a meeting point and joining instructions to everyone who books.

Who is it for?

All genders & ages. Children are welcome from 6-8pm and 8-10pm is for adults 18+ only. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. 🐶

How many people go to the campfires?

We aim for a group size of approx. 5-15 people, to give us the opportunity to connect with each other.

Is there an agenda for the meetings?
No. This isn’t like a typical workshop. The campfires are free-flow, loosely facilitated and develop organically, with lots of time and space to naturally connect with each other and chat about things around the campfire.

What about the weather?

The space we use has a covered outdoor area (underneath a parachute!), so we are dry in case it rains. It may be cold, wrap up warm!

What to bring?

We cook together over the fire (a highlight of the evening), so please bring food, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks to share. You are invited to bring things to play & share (musical instruments, art, movement practices etc.). There are logs to sit on, they might be wet and cold, so bring a blanket & cushion to make yourself comfy. Wear suitable warm clothes and shoes.

What not to bring?
Kindling Space is a sober gathering, don’t bring alcohol. Don’t bring dogs that won’t settle quietly. Don’t bring Bluetooth speakers. Please use your common sense around what else is best left at home.

Are there any other rules?
Our guiding principles are to be respectful to yourself, each other, and to nature. We don’t tolerate aggressive, threatening, discriminatory or persistently disruptive behaviour. Respect people’s boundaries and ask for consent where necessary. Don’t repeat what somebody has shared in a way that could identify them. We follow a leave no trace principle: take our rubbish with us, respect wildlife and plants, leave the space as we found it.

How much does it cost?

This is a not-for-profit peer gathering. We ask for a donation to cover plot hire, firewood and other small expenses which I have to pay upfront. It’s pay-as-you-feel with £5 / £10 / £15 options. Additional donations are welcome if you are able and keen to support us further. 🙏🏼

What happens if I can’t make it?

I know that life happens and plans and health can change at the last minute. Please let us know if you can’t make it. We can’t refund donations, but we can welcome you to a future campfire instead.

How can I join?

It will be great to see you there! Please reserve your space and make a donation in advance. Spaces are limited and we have a lot more interest than expected. If we’re full, keep an eye out for our next campfire coming very soon!

Is there a WhatsApp group?

Yes! Please contact us if you’d like to be added.
